How to Learn Spanish Verbs

There are rumors saying that Spanish verbs are difficult to learn and how confusing they can be.  You might even be put off by them and avoid trying to learn them. However, the truth is, Spanish verbs can be learned with just a little effort.

One thing people do not understand that Spanish verbs are in fact, similar to English verbs in many areas.  For example, you may have heard that it is difficult to learn Spanish verbs because you need to conjugate them.  What conjugating verbs simply means matching up the correct verb form for each person, as in I, you, he, she, we, or they.

What people do not seem to understand is that we often conjugate English words as well.  For instance, we say <I have> , but we say <she has>.  While you learn Spanish, you will also need to conjugate verbs similarly.

The one difference is that you have numerous forms for more of the <persons>.  When you learn Spanish verbs, you will learn a special form each for I, you, we, they, and other form for he, she, or it.  Another reason that makes it easy to learn Spanish verbs is that these verb forms are based mostly on standard endings.  Once you know these endings, you can then apply them to the infinitives.

Infinitives are the very basic forms of the verbs.  All verbs in English have an infinitive form, but most people do not know about it.  The English infinitive begins with the simple word to, as in <to have>.  Spanish infinitives are single words, like <tener>, meaning <to have> also.  If you learn Spanish infinitives, you will have a good start while you learn Spanish verbs.

As you learn Spanish, you will find that some words are different from others.  Just as in English, irregular verbs ar commonly found.  The English verb <to be> is conjugated <I am>, <you are>, <she is>, <we are>, and <they are>.  Since these forms are not the usual infinitive with an ending, they do form an irregular verb.

When you learn Spanish, you will learn verbs with similar patterns.  With the same example, for the Spanish verb <ser>, the forms are <yo soy>, <tu eres>, <ella es>, <nosotros estamos>, and <ellos estan>.  These are some irregular verb forms.

The next set of forms you will require to learn Spanish are the tenses.  In English, the past tense for <jump> is <jumped>.  This is a regular past tense word.  An example of a verb with an irregular past tense is <go>,  the past tense is <went>.

As you learn Spanish, you will learn how to make endings for each tense; present, past, past perfect, and more.  You will also learn Spanish irregular endings for verbs in various different tenses.  With all this knowledge that you will learn, along with information on various parts of speech, you should be able to engage in an intelligent conversation.

For sure, there are a lot to grasp while you learn Spanish verbs.  There are many words and verb forms to learn.  However, if you remember that English has many of these same structures, you will realize that it is not so confusing after all.
